May 1, 2012 The
Spring Mission members have just returned from Guatemala. This
mission was divided between a clinic in our usual site, Nueva Santa
Rosa and a new site in Cuilapa. The new site enabled people from
remote villages closer to Cuilapa to reach us. Therefore, we saw a
population we had not been able to serve before.
The Nueva Santa Rosa site was as busy as ever. Because we were
unable to send a full mission last October, due to flooding and
mudslides and earthquakes, many patients were desperately in need of
treatment and medicines.
Approximately 2400 people were treated in 5 days by our fantastic
volunteers.
The Glens Falls Medical Mission Foundation is a non-profit*
organization formed to provide services to a medically under-served
area of Guatemala. Our goals include determining the area’s health
needs through discussion with the local residents and community
leaders. We then work to provide a wide range of medical and other
health-related services to meet these needs.
Our
team members have joined together to develop this volunteer
medical project as a non-denominational community effort.
Services include both direct medical care and the tools to
empower the people of Guatemala to improve their own health
care system. We strongly emphasize health related education.
We have conducted medical mission trips to this rural area
in Guatemala for the past several years. This web site
includes information about our past trips, how you can join
in to participate in our projects, or support us. We also
have included some photos, personal stories and trip logs
from members of our teams.
